GECKORESEARCH SCOPE — CURRENT
The current research universe.
This is the basket of 110 LSE-listed instruments (Gecko's backtest_core tag) the current research runs against — including the TFM re-validated, deduplicated RR-ladder series that's produced the best, statistically-validated results so far. It supersedes the two earlier, narrower baskets this site has used (the original 28-stock scope and a 42-stock intermediate step), expanded as more historical candle data was backfilled and as older, thinly-traded symbols were pruned out. Strategy-agnostic: not tied to TFM specifically, just the general-purpose dataset current research draws on.
Candle data covers 1st June 2016 through to 15th August 2026 for this series (pulled back slightly from the true data end, to leave every trade's expiry window room to resolve within the backtest). The data are mainly one day and five minute candles, where the one day candles are used to detect swing trade opportunities and simulated trades are then "walked forward" using the five minute candles to see if the target or stop-loss are hit first. There are over 37 million records so far.
This basket carries the same bias the earlier ones did: every instrument is an LSE-listed, actively-traded name, and financials — 29 of 110, mostly banks, insurers, asset managers and REITs — are still a noticeably larger share than of the FTSE 100 as a whole. That reflects how the universe grew rather than a deliberate sector call, and it's worth keeping in mind when reading any result run against this scope that doesn't control for sector.
As with the earlier scope pages, this list may grow or be pruned further over time as data quality issues are found. Individual research posts will note the exact scope and date range they used where it differs from this page.
